Loren Sutherland, Senior Director of Business Development
Loren served his country with a tour of duty in the U.S. Army following his summa cum laude Honors and Distinguished Military graduation from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and had reached the rank of Major, Adjutant Generals Corps, upon retirement having completed 13 additional years of service to his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. In addition to staying fit through morning jogs around his San Mateo neighborhood, water sports like waterskiing, and the rare but precious fly-fishing vacation, Loren is a highly vetted oenophile and the co-publisher of “Regions Northwest – A Food & Wine Yearbook” (1996). He also is involved in volunteer work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and with his alma mater as a volunteer and Past Chairman of the Board of the California Polytechnic Alumni Association and Past President of the Alumni Council of the California State University System. Loren believes in the golden rule, so his personal goals include a lifelong commitment to giving back to society through his many charitable and volunteer activities. He looks up to fellow soldier Colin Powell for his “Integrity and dedication to education in America,” to the late Herb Caen for “creating the ‘pulse’ of San Francisco, and to Jim Morgan, the Applied Materials chairman, for “his concept that ‘perception is all there is.’” Loren sometimes offers up the occasional deep thought to those of us with a moment to pause…he’s earned the right. If you’d like to bounce some ideas off him, he’d be glad to listen.
