Loren Sutherland, Senior Director of Business Development

A California native, Loren has over 25 years of experience in the Semiconductor industry. Over the years he has worked for the big players, such as Schumacher and Applied Materials, as well as suppliers and start-ups. Loren has also stayed in touch with advances in the industry through membership and board positions with various industry associations including, NanoTX 2008, Oregon Science & Technology Partnership, International Semiconductor Manufacturing Sciences Symposium, and SEMI.

Loren served his country with a tour of duty in the U.S. Army following his summa cum laude Honors and Distinguished Military graduation from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and had reached the rank of Major, Adjutant Generals Corps, upon retirement having completed 13 additional years of service to his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.

In addition to staying fit through morning jogs around his San Mateo neighborhood, water sports like waterskiing, and the rare but precious fly-fishing vacation, Loren is a highly vetted oenophile and the co-publisher of “Regions Northwest – A Food & Wine Yearbook” (1996). He also is involved in volunteer work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and with his alma mater as a volunteer and Past Chairman of the Board of the California Polytechnic Alumni Association and Past President of the Alumni Council of the California State University System.

Loren believes in the golden rule, so his personal goals include a lifelong commitment to giving back to society through his many charitable and volunteer activities. He looks up to fellow soldier Colin Powell for his “Integrity and dedication to education in America,” to the late Herb Caen for “creating the ‘pulse’ of San Francisco, and to Jim Morgan, the Applied Materials chairman, for “his concept that ‘perception is all there is.’”
