Matt Grimshaw, Founding Member and Digital Projects Director

Hailing from London, Matt is a self-professed, self-taught geek with an insatiable appetite for anything tech (we won’t even go into his passion for anything with an engine).

Although originally trained as an audio engineer, one of his first jobs out of school was with Montgomery Research Europe as a salesperson. He worked on Future Fab in its infancy, and with Nikki, became a founding member of Mazik Media in 2005. “The job appealed to my ‘inner geek’” he says.

Matt also loves football (soccer), both as a player and a fan. He roots for Arsenal and founded a small “football” team in Santa Clara. Matt keeps healthy surfing, snowboarding, running, hiking, and mentally fit through his passion for technology, science reading and filmed documentaries. He also loves science fiction, travel and has been a car nut since birth.

Despite his love of sports, under that seeming rough-hewn exterior lies the soul of a poet: “I’m excited by the amazing convergence of technological and biological systems that I’ll see in my lifetime,” he says. “I hope to be involved in helping the giants of technology communicate and connect with each other, and in doing so, be part of the evolution in my own small way. We are all but cogs in a machine far bigger than the individual – all we can do is our best.”

He holds tremendous respect for his parents “for being spectacular despite all that life has thrown at them.” He also respects Sir Winston Churchill, for being as subtle as a brick but also “the right man for the time.” His true admiration lies with Professor Stephen Hawking: “A genius beyond a genius with his brilliance and resolve that is unmatched in modern times.”

Currently Matt resides in Northern California and hopes one day to adopt twin English Bull terriers and call them Scratch and Sniff … (don’t ask)!
